Welcome to the MJW Journal, an online publication of the stories, photos and media created by the participants in the Multicultural Journalism Workshop, which is housed in the Department of Journalism & Creative Media at The University of Alabama!
For the 40th anniversary of this camp, we chose the theme “MJW Boldly Goes….” As we look back on the past achievements of former students, we also boldly embrace the future of multiculturalism in journalism and media. Over 10 days, nine students from five states embarked on telling the rich, diverse stories of people in the Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, Alabama, areas. From monuments immortalizing the Civil Rights Movement to the fossils at Alabama Museum of Natural History, our budding journalists experienced the best the Black Belt region has to offer.
