Multicultural Journalism Workshop Apply to UA Make a Gift

The MJW Journal

Welcome to the MJW Journal, the online companion publication of our printed stories, photos and media created by the participants in the Multicultural Journalism Workshop, which is housed in the Department of Journalism & Creative Media at The University of Alabama!

This year’s theme was “Road Trip!” While we didn’t find ourselves cruising down Route 66, we took time to visit historical and impactful sites around the Black Belt region, including the Civil Rights Institute and Birmingham Art Museum in Birmingham and the Jones Archaeological Museum in Moundville. We toured UA’s campus during our Hallowed Grounds Tour and a tour of the cutting-edge Digital Media Center.

Our students met with award-winning journalists, including author Harold Jackson and editors Ryan Phillips (Tuscaloosa “Patch”), John Allan Clark and Casey Roberts (“The Greensboro Watchman”). Over six days, these nine talented students from six states embarked on telling rich, diverse stories that reflected their multicultural identities and interests.
